Polish Dance/Movement Therapy Association set criteria and procedure for Certification System of Dance/Movement Psychotherapists. The system is based upon standards of training in European programs of Dance/Movement Therapy. Considering preparation of the Medical professions legislation that will regulate the psychotherapy as a profession in Poland, the standards concerning dance/movement psychotherapists might change, however they will be in effect until the end of March 2013.

I.    CRITERA OF CERTIFICATION FOR DANCE/MOVEMENT  PSYCHOTHERAPISTS

1.    The certificate might be acquired only by an ordinary member of Polish Dance/Movement Therapy Association (PSPTiR) who fulfilled conditions specified by particular bills. To become an ordinary member one has to graduate from program recommended by the Association or graduate from a different program and become a member thought alternative route. Being an ordinary member implies finishing a structured training in dance/movement psychotherapy, a training that consists of a certain amount of lectures, practice, supervision and personal therapy. At a present moment the only program that is recommended by the Association is the training in the Polish Institute of Dance/Movement Psychotherapy. 2.    Ordinary members of the Association who are applying for certification have to fulfill criteria that follows:
  1. Minimum of 360 hours of practice, with the minimum of 180 hours of direct client contact, of which a minimum of 100 hours during her/his training. The rest of the required practice hours could have been use for therapeutic session’s preparation, therapeutic team work, completing process notes.
  2. Clinical practice supervision with the minimum of 150 hours (including supervision hours during training), with the minimum of 50 hours of individual supervision. Supervisee has to have at least two supervisors, with at least 80 hours with the dance/movement therapy supervisor.

II.    CERTIFICATION PROCEDURE

Certification procedure is conducted by Certification Board of PSPTiR. To apply for the dance/movement psychotherapist certificate one has to submit to the Certification Board at the address of the Association an application form with 4 copies of each document:
1.    Certification of completion of required minimum of clinical practice hours. The certification should be issued by an authorized personnel, and the document should carry: name, last name, signature and contact information of authorized personnel, name and contact info of the placement, amount of hours completed and the period of time, when the practice was taking place. Certification of completion of dance/movement therapy training with a specified amount of clinical practice hours is also a valid proof of clinical practice completion. When upon conclusion of a dance/movement therapy training one has been practicing in a private practice, one is presenting a personally signed document with the description of lead dance/movement therapy groups/ individual sessions with the following information: with whom and where were the sessions taking place, how many sessions were lead with each group/ client, how long was one session, how long was the psychotherapeutic process (beginning and ending date). The document has to be cosigned by the supervisor that was supervising work with this particular group/ client.
2.    Certification of completion of required amount and type of supervision. The document should carry a name of the association where the supervisor was certified. Certification of completion of dance/movement therapy training with a specified amount of hours of supervision is also a valid proof of supervision hours completion.  
3.    Processing fee in the amount of 300 PLN paid to the account of the Association. In case one is applying for Psychotherapist Certificate and Supervisory Certificate at the same time the fee is 300 PLN.    
Based on the submitted documents the Certification Board makes its decision or asks the candidate for a personal interview. Certification Board might also ask the candidate to supply additional documents. Within 60 days (excluding months of July and August) the written decision of the Certification Board’s will be provided. The decision could be one of the following:
  1. Dance/Movement Psychotherapist certificate was awarded
  2. Candidate was asked to further his/her training, acquire hours of clinical practice or personal therapy. The Certification Board will inform the candidate which area he/she should develop. Upon fulfilling additional requirements the candidate has to reapply for the certificate, and pay the processing fee. The Certification Board will make a decision concerning the second application within 30 days (excluding months of July and August). 
  3. Candidate might be denied the certificate, and the Certification Board will explain its decision. Candidate might apply once to have this decision reviewed, upon the payment of the fee of 200 PLN. When the application is reviewed all members of the Certification Board have to be present, and in case of disagreement, the member of the Ethic Board might be asked for guidance. The second decision of the Certification Board is final.

III.    REGISTRY OF THE CERTIFIED DANCE/MOVEMENT PSYCHOTERAPISTS

Members that will follow the application procedure and will be awarded the Dance/Movement Psychotherapists certificate will be on the list of Dance/Movement Psychotherapists Registry.
